Benjamin first worked with his dad as a candle maker. But he didn't like the job. He liked to read. So his dad sent him to work in his brother's shop. His brother was a printer. Benjamin was beaten by his brother, who was older than him. He wanted to write for the paper, but his brother wouldn't let him. So Benjamin secretly wrote letters with the name "Silence Dogood". When his brother found out that Benjamin was the one who was writing all those letters with the name "Silence Dogood " he stopped printing them. When he was 16 he became a vegetarian because he read a book about vegetable diets. Benjamin ran away from his brother's shop, and earned money by selling all his books. Then he sailed to Philadelphia and got a job working for a printer. He made a Poor Richard's Almanac which was about Richard giving advice. He retired when he was 42 because he got rich from his Richard's Almanac.
